Velvet Eyes: Venezia! We Did Not Find A Better Place For Our Wedding’s Homeymoon And The Sun Light!1st New Episode (1922). Publication: Sept 2, 2009. A Story By Mike Fuller, PhD.

August 29, 2009

In 1922, it is a magic year for us, I was so proud to have Valentine for wife after a ceremony where our parents came from the United States for one week of joy and happiness. To be a couple was new and so exciting for me. I decided to open this door that we call love to discover new countries, imaginary ones, with many things to learn, day by day, with the motivation of our Union of human beings. She was 22 at that time, born for the New Century and ready to live it totally, decade after decade! Our Honeymoon destination was Venezia in Italy and I cannot forget this City with her and my heart beating so fast, everyday.

She Wanted Champagne, He Gave Her Life Champaign And Some Of The Best Meetings That You Can Imagine, With The Witnesses Of This Era Of Decadence Then Rebirth Of Occident. But They were In Love, First Of All.

Velvet Eyes did not have sunglasses but long hair for that year and a suit looking like a Charlie Chaplin one, to some extend or like an European from the 10’s with the style of the future 30’s, he was huge but never knew, some people followed them but stopped at the fronteer of Venice, Venezia, Venezzia where everything stopped then began again for him and her, a permanent Valentine’s Day.

It was Venezia, nothing else and what I remember the best is the Sun. That day we arrived, the next day and the next next days. What a fun and an overdose of emotions, it was history, private history, our history! The photographers were already there, in 1922 and we came back, one year later in 1923 to have a sequel of this and in 1924, we decided to look at the pictures only and to go to Hungry to change the schedule for our 2 years wedding anniversary. Stories of a couple, Valentine was pregnant.

There were colors everywhere in Venezia and they spoke an Italian that I did not know. My wife asked about Benito Mussolini but they looked like they did not know yet except some Romans who laughed and told us Fascism is the Future maybe, we replied: “What do you mean by Facism?” and they said: “You cannot understand, you’re Americans!” We did not appreciated at all and left for another group of happy people from Great Britain and Spain who criticized the new Italian regime. Anyway, it was the only political part of our Honeymoon and we were drunk every night, dancing on the St Mark’s Square, Piazza San Marco, every couple of days and having perfect time to go from a gondola to another in order to know everything about the city with the streets and the Sea.

I Love, You Love, We Love but we also had an appointment with an old citizen of our Country who was located in a marvelous museum that he built with his fortune and his irony and culture because he was from Italian roots, got rich in the States and came back old and divorced to have a miracle home with originals of Da Vinci and Michelangelo. He told us about his wife he lost a few years before and  said that she liked only impressionism and expressionism, Val felt asleep and we had to leave for a diner in the Venezia town with an Italian woman who wanted to know more about Central Europe and our Embassy. The menu was Pastas and I ate and she ate so much pastas that we were ready for an after-diner coma but it didn’t happen thanks to our Love!

At the end of our stay, we were careful as there were some troubles in the city of our dreams and a man was about to shoot with a revolver the mayor in a restaurant, for political reasons, we read in the news. We heard the noise of the gun, the restaurant was at the corner of our luxurious hotel, time to prepare our suitcases and take the train to leave for Prague and the beginning of our adventures mixing politics, mystery and evasion from the past without to understand which future will be ours, but it would be, it will be ours, we were sure of it, confident in our destiny of people liking people who like people.”
